Without doubt, science has been responsible for many amazing advances for our lives, such that we astoundingly manage to (far too easily) take for it all granted. Think for instance, upon how our grandparents once had to struggle through every piece of their work and leisure at night with nothing more than a candle or ten, to give them the much needed illumination for their tasks. The closest thing to a radio to listen to while they toiled was the local choir, but they had to leave their work and travel half way across town to enjoy such distractions. And TV wasn't even a dream in the imagination. It really was in fact, only yesterday; in the historical sense. So when our grandparents were born, provided you (the reader) are over 45 or so, they likely had no radio and the concept of TV was entirely unheard of. The electric light bulb had been developed; however only the well healed could afford such luxuriant extravagances.
When we allow ourselves a few minutes to consider these things, we are awe struck at how it really was just yesterday that things started improving drastically and at such a remarkable pace, in the daily lives of mankind, and how we have advanced such a long way in the two or three generations since. To be fair, it is science that has brought us so far along the way during this short time, and generally, we have long since stopped feeling even a tinge, that we might have a cause to be thankful for most all of it. After all, now we consider it a natural and rightful conclusion, to have as much illumination as we desire at night, and just try to take away my TV or car, and see what happens! So whilst our grandparents would have given thanks on a five minute basis, to the scientist for the chance to enjoy, for just a day what we have all our lives right now, we on the other hand have somehow reached the place that we consider all of it - and much more, as our birthright. It is no longer a privilege as such, to be truly thankful for. How ungrateful can we be, and yet not even notice?
As far as pure scientific understanding and discovery is concerned, it is universally regarded that there has been none greater than Albert Einstein (below) whom, unless I’m mistaken never actually invented a single new appliance for our kitchen, or developed a superior way for our internal combustion engine to propel our automobiles. In fact I cannot think of any actual new and/or improved item he developed. Yet, this man is singled out as being the one who advanced our understanding of the laws of our universe more than any other individual, and as we all know, when we play by the laws (rules), we start winning in a legitimate manner, and that is an exciting place to be.
So what was it that Albert Einstein, as a through and through scientist gave us that offered us such remarkable advancement, if it wasn’t a shorter time span for the toasting of our slice of bread in the morning? Well, it seems that Mr. Einstein’s endeavors were almost the opposite of the majority of scientists, for his efforts were not by any means, in the interest of himself becoming a zillionaire. Rather, his seeking was towards deep and reasoned understanding of why things are the way they are, and as we all know, when we understand why things are what they are, we start playing by the rules, and therefore winning in a legitimate manner.
So Albert Einstein as a physicist, worked on, discovered and ultimately gave us little more than some understanding by discernment of; the laws of existence. Notice, I didn’t say he ‘invented’ either understanding, or the laws of existence. His efforts were only to open his, and subsequently our eyes; to what has always been, which does not ever rely upon even one person ever agreeing with it. So you see, this comes under that test result that we, as far as this blog is concerned, call ‘ultimate truth’, and therefore belongs under our ‘YAHWEH’ option. Even though science has opened our eyes to this particular piece of Ultimate Truth (YAHWEH), and deserves many accolades for doing so, yet science, through Mr. Einstein has merely recognized it’s everlasting authenticity. Well, this has been rather general an observation to this point, so let us now attempt to place a little meat upon the bones of the specific things that Mr. Einstein has opened our eyes to.
It is widely regarded that the greatest resultant illumination for our awareness sake that Albert Einstein achieved, is known as the ‘Theory of Relativity’. This work, which Einstein had completed by the time he was 37, actually had all other scientists of the day completely baffled, as to what it all meant. There are accounts as to how the mightiest physicist minds of the time would go and seek from Einstein himself, further explanation of the deeper understandings that had been revealed through this pronouncement, yet would leave without having been able to assimilate nearly enough to satisfy their appetite. I can sympathize with their dilemma as they sat in their train on the way back home after spending a week listening to Albert explain all about it, and thinking to themselves ‘On my way here I thought I was smart, but now I’m struggling to stop from feeling like I need to go back to kindergarten, because it is like I didn’t understand a word of this past week long tuition’. Well, that is what would have been my thoughts at least.
That was all the latest news, almost a century ago, yet even today, the more honest among our scientific community will openly admit that they really still do not fully understand the depth and breadth of the discovery exposed through Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. We all use much of the resultant illumination and technology it has afforded us in our daily lives, which indicates that scientists are understanding a great deal more about the nature of what is than ever before, but it is an entirely different thing to be able to know how to drive a car, than to know how the engine in that car is able to propel it at breakneck speeds to whatever destination the driver chooses. Likewise, a scientist can generate and send an electrical surge or stream to your toaster each morning, but it is an entirely different thing to know what it actually is that he has generated and passed along the strung out copper cable, all the way to your kitchen.
Of course, the scientist doesn’t really need to fully understand what it (in this case electricity) actually is, in order to achieve satisfactorily in his primary task; being to make many dollars for his bosses by supplying sufficient quantities of the stuff in optimum time, and in a process as economical as possible; so that he in turn, can receive his deserved portion of the gathered funds. Now, his secondary task, which it might be argued should be his primary (maybe a discussion for another day), is to more fully understand what the commodity actually is. Why? Because in more fully understanding the reality of the substance, the more fully, and by the rules, we can all play the game (of life), for we will be playing in a manner more aligned with ‘Ultimate Truth’, being ‘YAHWEH’ (of our research) destination.
See why Albert Einstein’s contribution has been so important? Because even though we have known about and used electricity for hundreds and even thousands of years before him, yet we have been using a commodity that we actually know little of, and as such, even though it has produced great and many benefits, advancements and illumination, yet we have not really been playing by the rules as far as it is concerned. So how much more rewarding might it be for us, if and when we actually know the rules, and then choose to play by them?
We have somewhat digressed from the discussion in regards Einstein’s ‘Theory of Relativity’, so let us get back on track right now. Note: we will be returning to this issue in much deeper detail in due course.
Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, is actually man’s way of explaining what has always been (WHAT IS). As such it remains a ‘theory’, but on the other hand, what it is attempting to explain is that which could NEVER be regarded as a theory, for it is pure fact in the highest order. It stands alone with or without anyone ever understanding or agreeing with it, and is, for the purpose of our blog discussion; our ‘YAHWEH’. The Theory of Relativity is certainly not the only means by which man has tried to explain the nature of WHAT IS (YAHWEH), but it stands alone, even today as being the pinnacle of such attempts of science and any other discipline, to be sure.
Admittedly this particular post has not actually made much inroad into specific explanation, as to what the Theory of Relativity is all about, but has rather, offered up an overall concept of its essence and relevance in so many facets of our lives on a daily basis; now and into the future. In fact, the new illumination that this theory is offering up for our discernment and understanding is not nearly finished. We expect further revealing of ‘YAHWEH’, will continue to unfold as we delve deeper into these things over the coming months and posts.
